Charles Krauthammer admits that President Obama is "a very skilled politician"
During a discussion last Thursday on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” with Bill O’Reilly about President Obama’s executive action on immigration, Fox News Contributor Charles Krauthammer acknowledged a very important skill that President Obama
has and one the Republicans often ignore.
Krauthammer told O’Reilly that President Obama is a “very skilled politician” who used the issue of immigration to his advantage.
“What I’m saying is that he’s a very skilled politician who has used the issue for six years, the way many politicians do,” said Krauthammer.
Krauthammer’s comments were a response to O’Reilly question of if the president’s executive order on immigration was a sign that he, President Obama, is a “bad person” who uses certain issues for his own gain.
Krauthammer answered, “No, of course not,” and that he saw President Obama behaving in the same manner as other politicians have in the past.
Krauthammer said that he believes President Obama’s decision to not push immigration reform through, when the Democrats controlled Congress in 2009 and 2010, was a calculating decision on the president’s part because he knew the issue of immigration would remain a hot topic that he could use sometime in the near future.
“But most importantly, if he feels so strongly about this and scripture dictates that this ought to be done, why did he do nothing about this in 2009 and 2010 when he had control of the White House, the House, and the Senate and he could actually have done this constitutionally by passing legislation. He wants the issue and he wants to use it and that’s what he has got,” said Krauthammer.
Since President Obama’s announcement, several Republicans have come out promising to use everything from not funding the plan for the executive order to refusing to nominate the president’s appointees in order to make him change course.
President Obama signed the executive order last Friday. And in his weekly address last week, the president repeated his line of, “pass a bill,” to Republicans who argue that he has usurped Congress by using his executive powers on immigration.
